Astra Zeneca Vaccine

There has been a lot in the news recently regarding countries temporarily suspending the use of the Astra Zeneca vaccine.

The evidence is that rates of thromboembolic events (blood clots) are no higher than we would expect in the same population who have not been vaccinated.

We support the view of the Medicines and Healthcare Regulatory Authority, European Medicines Authority and the World Health Organisation that Astra Zeneca is safe.

We continue to deliver this vaccine to our community.

If you decline your invitation for the Astra Zeneca vaccine locally please be aware that we do not currently have any future deliveries of the Pfizer vaccine allocated to our PCN for first doses.

All patients will receive the same vaccine for their second dose as their first.

The following information leaflet provides further details about the COVID-19 vaccination and blood clotting.
