Latest PCN Statement: COVID Vaccination service until 27th June 2021.

To date the Melton, Syston and the Vale Primary Care Network have delivered over 33,000 vaccinations made up of 23,695 first doses and 10,000 second dose vaccinations and this success would not have been possible without the support of every volunteer who has given their time and energy to supporting the COVID vaccination programme from the Melton Sports Village site.

As a community PCN, we remain on track with the second dose vaccination schedule and we have experienced high attendance rates at the centre.  In addition we are also providing the second dose vaccination to care home residents and housebound patients.

The UK vaccination programme as a whole has been very successful with the introduction of the NHS online vaccination booking system offering patients a wide range of sites to attend to be able access their vaccination as quickly as possible.

As a PCN, our focus has been to vaccinate patients in line with the JCVI cohorts 1 to 9.  This ensured that we prioritised those most at clinical risk within our community and we have successfully delivered on this commitment.

General Practice has seen unprecedented demand over the last nine months and as we start to see restrictions lift across other sectors, the expectations and demand on Primary Care continues to increase at an alarming rate.  The resource and workload that is required from General Practice to enable an operational community PCN vaccination centre in not sustainable in a climate where the demand in Primary Care increases to the levels we are currently experiencing.

In order to navigate the current and future challenges to General Practice we have taken a collective PCN decision to complete the second dose schedule as planned for cohorts 1-9 until 27th June.

First dose vaccinations for healthy patients aged 18yrs to 50yrs (JCVI groups 10-12) will be available at one of the alternative sites within Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The CCG are currently exploring another provider to deliver COVID vaccination services at the Melton Sports Village.

First dose vaccination appointments are available at various sites across LLR. Appointments can be booked via the national booking website: https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/coronavirus-covid-19/coronavirus-vaccination/book-coronavirus-vaccination/ or by visiting https://www.leicestercityccg.nhs.uk/my-health/coronavirus-advice/coronavirus-vaccine/
